Fraunhofer ICT

Reseaching the core competencies of chemical processes, polymer engineering, energy and drive systems and explosives technology

The main campus of the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology ICT, with over 100 laboratories, multiple pilot plants and 3 test centers is located in Pfinztal near Karlsruhe, Germany. Currently, about 540 employees are conducting research in the core competencies of chemical processes, polymer engineering, energy and drive systems and explosives technology. Focus of the research is on the scalability of processes and the transfer of research results from laboratory to pilot plant scale, and in some cases to pre-series applications. Customers and project partners include chemical and chemical process engineering companies, automotive manufacturers and their suppliers, the aviation industry, the construction industry, the plastics processing industry, material manufacturers, recycling companies, companies in the energy and environmental sectors, and customers with safety-related issues.

Fraunhofer ICT’s role in 2LIPP

The research group for sustainability and circularity assessment is part of the Environmental Engineering Division. Aiming at supporting sustainable developments in the main research areas of ICT, the group provides internal and external partners with life cycle assessment (LCA), life cycle cost analyses (LCC) and the development of recycling concepts for products, processes and materials. Goal is to identify potential improvements at each stage of the life cycle, to close information gaps and thus ensure a reliable assessment and feedback during the development.
